Tip Calculator
Work out the tip and split the bill in seconds.
Per person
How this is calculated
Tip = bill × (tip % ÷ 100). Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ number of people. This assumes an even split — for itemized splits, each person’s tip is usually based on their own subtotal instead.
What’s a standard tip percentage in the US?
15–20% is typical for sit-down restaurant service in most of the US, with 20%+ common for excellent service in larger cities. Some regions and service types (delivery, bars) differ.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Most guidance suggests tipping on the pre-tax subtotal, though many people simply tip on the total shown on the receipt for simplicity — either is commonly accepted.
